Gardens at Ascension

Our land stewardship focus began with the first Hope Community Gardens – designed to provide food for the Hope Community Fridge.  Since that beginning, we’ve at least tripled our garden area for the fridge, introduced community (Neighbor) gardens, and have begun to change over areas of gras with more ecologically friendly native plantings with the Food Forest Coalition of Chattanooga.  We’re continuing to grow and expand this space and welcome any ideas from the neighborhood.

Hope Community Fridge & Gardens

Our Hope Community Gardens help fill the Hope Community Fridge with fresh vegetables.  What started as a small garden with two raised beds, is now multiple gardens to grow lots of food.  We have garden workdays scheduled the first Sunday of every month to come together as community and help with planting, maintenance, building more gardens, and more.

The Food Forest Coalition of Chattanooga has selected Ascension as one of several sights around Chattanooga.  They have planted 80+ trees, grape vines, and lots of other native plantings to begin the process of turning our unused land into food for animals, insects, and people.

These are our community gardens open to anyone.  They’re about 3 foot by 4 foot and you can have more than one.  See our Neighbor Gardens page for more info.

Walking Path

We’ve long been a place for neighbors to walk their dogs or bring the kids to run around.  To expand this access and allow people to have access to our wooded land, community volunteers have help cut a path through the woods.  Feel free to come and explore this path, walk your dogs, and experience a little quiet time in nature.  This is just the beginning for the path – plan include mulching the path and building a bridge to an outdoor classroom.
