Ascension Lutheran Church Feeding Ministries

"...for I was hungry and you gave me Food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink" - Matthew 25:35-40

Our calling for our undeveloped land is to serve as ambassadors of Jesus through our feeding ministries.  We aim to build partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and municipal departments to steward our land as a gift, creating a beautiful and sustainable space that provides nourishment for all.

We started in 2017 with a small park under a shade tree that included a Little Free Pantry and Little Free Library. Little Free Pantries are small food pantries stocking a limited number of staple foods which anyone may take when they are in need. Unlike larger food pantries, the Little Free Pantry is intended to solve a small immediate need for food. It does not address larger needs or replace traditional food pantries or food programs. It also asks no questions and has no requirements to prove need. It is also “self service” and available 24 hours a day.

We continued in 2024 with  an outdoor refrigerator that is accessible 24/7.  Our partnership with Hope Community Fridge has led us to focus on the stewardship of our land and to use it to help alleviate community food insecurity.  We’ve held two events to promote and stock the fridge.

We’ve met so many new people who are passionate about feeding people, sustaining our land, and helping each other.  We’ve developed relationships with community members and other organizations and businesses that have the same sense of community.

Right after opening our Hope Community Fridge, we started a few raised-bed gardens. We’ve had help from a lot of other organizations and the success of these gardens continues to grow. We’ve had our first harvest and celebrated with the Harvest Jam. We have lots of plans to make the gardens a place the whole community can enjoy.
